Nova Scotia Recognized for Tourism Excellence

Nova Scotia has won big at the 2011 National Awards for Tourism Excellence, where three provincial nominees received first-place honours at a dinner held on November 24 in Ottawa.

The Waterfront Development Corporation won the Corporate Partner of the Year Award, the Celtic Colours International Festival won the National Cultural Tourism Award and White Point Beach Resort won the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council Award for Excellence in Human Resources Development. The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo was also short-listed for the Metro Toronto Convention Centre Event of the Year.

The awards, presented by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, recognize people, places, organizations and events that offer a superior tourism experience to travellers in Canada. Three finalists were named in each of 14 award categories.

Danny Morton, General Manager, White Point Beach Resort, which was damaged by a devastating fire on November 12, was thrilled to receive recognition for human resources development, something he has championed for many years.

"I am so proud of all of our staff," said Mr. Morton. "To be successful, an HR program has to belong to everyone. The priorities of guest service have to be sincere and universal. At White Point, this is certainly the case. Accepting this award on behalf of my White Point team is so gratifying during this challenging time."
