Municipalities in Kings County sign MOU to Cooperate on Sustainable DevelopmentOn December 7, 2011, the County of Kings and the Towns of Berwick, Kentville and Wolfville signed a Memorandum of Understanding demonstrating their commitment to working together on Kings 2050—a cooperative strategy to address long-term sustainable development in Kings County. In addition to the four municipalities, the project will receive support from Service Nova Scotia & Municipal Relations and various other partners. As the third largest municipality in the province, having the Towns and County working together is a large task, but one that will ensure the future development of Kings County is planned for efficiently. There are a variety of practical reasons for why Kings 2050 is a collaborative project. Issues such as climate change, economic development and transportation can be more effectively addressed collectively. The premise of Kings 2050 is based on sustainability goals. Instead of exploring whether sustainability is worthwhile, Kings 2050 looks at how the region can best achieve sustainability. A Kings 2050 website will be launched in the near future.
